The one that looked right and is not a card
The Midway Ferris Wheel is sold as a centrepiece that doubles as a card, and it is one of the three designs in this range that actually has a Happy Birthday banner drawn in. It is still not on the list. Thirty sheets, foamcore, wooden dowels and a string of fairy lights are a weekend build and a table decoration. If you came here to solve Saturday, it is the wrong answer no matter how well it photographs.

Which Cricut is best for card making
The question behind it is usually narrower than it sounds: will the machine on your table cut the file you just downloaded? I check three things, and none of them is the model name on the box.
- Cut width, which rules files in or out.
- How the machine folds a crease.
- Whether it can cut a printed sheet.
Cut width quietly rules files out. Five of the seven designs above finish at 5 by 7, and you will notice two are wider than they are tall.
A Joy-class machine cuts a strip narrower than that, so you would have to split those files into pieces and join them again. That is a rebuild, not a resize. The Explore and Maker families take a 12-inch mat and cut all seven as drawn.
Folding is the second. A layered card is only as square as its creases.
An Explore folds with a scoring stylus, which draws the crease in a separate pass before the blade moves. A Maker folds with a scoring wheel, which presses the crease and holds a straighter line on heavy card. Either works for you.
What does not work is skipping the crease and folding by hand against a ruler. On a build with many sheets like Born to Ride, the front panel sits a millimetre proud, and it reads as crooked from across the room.
Printed sheets are the third, and they matter for one job: patterned fronts and anything with a photo. That is Print Then Cut, and it is where the Joy-class machines drop out again.

Yes, and it is a different job from everything above. A personalised deck is the one gift that lands with a man who has said he does not want a card.
It is Print Then Cut, not cut-only. The artwork prints on your home printer, then the machine reads the registration marks around the sheet and trims each card out.
Three things trip you up:
- The printable area is smaller than the mat, so a deck comes out several cards to a sheet across many sheets. A full 52 is an evening of feeding paper, not a ten-minute job.
- The stock has to be something your printer will pull. Card thick enough to feel like a deck usually is not, so I print on lighter stock and mount it, which doubles the work.
- Square corners are what the blade gives you. Rounded ones need a corner punch afterwards, card by card.
Where it pays off is a short deck, a dozen cards with a message each, tucked into one of the layered cards above. That is a birthday gift with a card attached, and the cutting time stays sane.

Which of these is quickest?
You will finish Retro Sound fastest at eleven sheets. Smartphone is ten, but you need a narrower envelope to match. Born to Ride is eighteen sheets, and you will feel every one.
Do any of them say happy birthday?
Of the seven, none. Across the whole vetted range of thirty-seven files, three do, and I would pick the Ferris wheel centrepiece for a man rather than a card.
What is acetate and do I have to buy it?
It is clear film, sold in sheets, that you use as a window. You need it for two designs here: the shaker, to hold its loose pieces in, and the camera, for the lens. You cannot swap in paper and keep the effect.
Can I put a gift card in any of these?
Only where a slot is built in. If you tape one inside a layered card, you add thickness where the card was designed to close flat, and you will see it on the front.
Are the wide cards a problem to post?
Only if your envelopes are all upright, and mine usually are. Born to Ride and Retro Sound both finish 5 high by 7 wide, which is a common envelope size but not the one most people have already bought for cards.
Is the bundle better value than the single cards?
